Snowboarding

I went snowboarding this weekend for the first time at Steven's Pass! I'm so sore, but it was fun and I had a great, very patient instructor- thanks Matt! The day went kinda like this...
  • Woke up at 6:30am (ouch!)
  • Drove to Steven's Pass - not that far only about 1.5 hours!
  • Get there and it's currently 20 degrees (yikes!) I think, hmmmm, I should have worn long johns under my snowboard pants)
  • I get fitted for my boots, snowboard and enrolled in my EZ 1-2-3 class.
  • There are about 6 of us in my step one class. One girl, Jill, her husband "highly encouraged" her to take the class (hmmm, sounds very familiar). We encourage eachother through at the class.
  • I actually catch on pretty quickly with the balance and learn to stop correctly on my board (no not falling although that happened alot too). Thank you yoga!!! And, thank goodness I didn't wear long johns - it got quite warm!
  • While learning to glide down the hill facing straight towards the hill, I almost kill Matt at one point. Sorry!
  • I take off my snowboard and hike up to the top of the beginner's hill so Jared can show me to glide down facing the hill. Only, I'm not able to get up! So I unclip my boot cord from my board, (this holds it from sliding down the hill when you take off your snowboard). My board decides to take off on it's own, probably frustrated from its rider not going down the expert hills that day, and torpedos into a group of expert snowboards on the other side of the hill. Very, very fast. Sorry about that!
  • The beautiful, sunny day is finishing up at 3pm and I turn in my snowboard and boots vowing to come back for my remaining two classes provided there is snow.
  • We drive home and I feel the soreness kicking in. I swear my thighs start to curse at me for not working out on the treadmill more often! Nah, I was just delirious from all the snow.
