Last night, a very unfortunate, and crappy situation left a friend of mine huddled on a balcony in a mall (of all places, everyone knows I hate malls!) with one crazy guy shooting two others. I've been trying to rack my brain and come up with serious reasons why crap like this has been happening lately.
1. Too much caffeine? Seattle is home to Starbucks whose main job is to push the last legal drug upon those of us who lack sleep, lack sunshine and work too much (although, I can't claim the last nowadays).
2. Not enough sunshine? Studies have shown that lack of sunshine causes people to possibly act and feel different than they normally would.
3. Maybe it was the mall? Seriously, think about all the capitalistic, consumeristic crap floating around. The tendency to buy things you don't need and maybe at this point can't afford with the economy being the way it is.
I'm not sure why many shootings have taken place in the Seattle area this year.
Here's a very short list of shootings that have taken place this past year, most of them very recentlys:
1. Six Killed, Two Wounded in Seattle-Area Shooting - September 2008
2. At least five dead in Seattle-area shootings - June 2008
3. Seattle: Gunman sought in Belltown shootings - October 2008
4. Seattle teen killed in drive-by shooting - November 2008
5. Search for suspect in Seattle restaurant shooting - January 2008
6. 56-Year-Old Man Gunned Down In Seattle - July 2008
This is only a small sample of the violence taking place in the area this year. I need to stop so I can get some of that much needed sunshine!
