A Birth Story - Part 1

4 Days Past Due Date

Dr. T - Hmmmm, I think this will be a bigger baby, definitely not a 6 pounder. (Measuring my abdomen) We should do the gel this Thursday and schedule an induction for 6am Friday morning.

Me: Ummm, ok. What's the gel?

Dr. T: It will help ripen your cervix for delivery. I did have one patient go into labor that night.

Me: Ok. (Induction was NOT something I wanted especially since it involved Pitocin which is known to put stress on the baby and leads to C-Sections).

Thursday Feb. 5th - 11:00 am

The Nurse That Talks Too Much: Ok, well Dr. T should be here any minute, let me talk to you about delivery while we have the fetal monitor hooked up to you for 30 minutes. Wha, wha, wha, wha, wha.... etc. (30 minutes later)

Neil and Marisa: Uh huh, yup, ok.

The Nurse That Talks Too Much: Oh, that was Dr. T's assistant, looks like she had an emergency C-Section to perform. Maybe you all should go get lunch.

Whole Foods, yum! Pizza and minestrone soup.

1 hour later

The Nurse That Talks Too Much: Looks like Dr. T isn't back yet. It could be HOURS, we're never really sure when they (the doctors) are coming back sometimes. So, let's discuss what happens AFTER birth. Wha, wha, wha, wha, wha.... etc.

15 minutes later

The Nurse That Talks Too Much: Ok, just got off the phone with Dr. T and she's on her way.

Neil and Marisa: Ok. (THANK GOD! TNTTTM is driving us crazy!)

10 minutes later

Dr. T - Okaaaay, here we go! Lay back, ok, I'm inserting the gel, okaaay, we're done! Be sure to call Labor and Delivery tomorrow moring to insure they will be able to fit you in for induction. Bye, bye!

2 minutes later driving home

Me: Ohhh my gawwwd, no one mentioned the cramps!

Neil: Maybe they are contractions.

Me: No, I don't think so, they seem kind of sporadic and the top of my abdomen isn't hurting. Plus, SHE JUST inserted the gel stuff. I can't imagine it would work that quickly.

Neil: You could be going into labor. Are you sure it's not contractions??

Me: I don't know! I've never done this before! I just feel really crampy. I just want to go home, shower and lay down. My mom and dad will be here in a couple of hours - I still need to finish cleaning!
