After much guilt about a few things including having toxic chemicals against my baby's skin 24/7 and TONS of trash due to the disposal of diapers I did some research on cloth diapering. People, there is a WHOLE community of people that are die hard fanatics about cloth diapering. I'm talking on the same level as the die hards about breastfeeding. I had no idea. I also had no idea there were so many choices out there.
This and this is what I bought on Amazon.com to try out the cloth diapering.
Here are some other cool options that we may go into if we decide it will work for us in the long haul.
Babykicks Cloth Diapers
Tiny Tush One-Size Diaper Cover
Bummis Froggy Diaper Cover
Imse Vimse Organic Jungle Diaper Cover
I have to note though: I believe that using cloth diapers on a newborn would be difficult only because they go through SO MANY diapers at first. And many of them are poopy diapers. Although, if you decide to go through a diaper service (which is very reasonably priced - Seattle Diaper Service) then it probably wouldn't be a huge deal, just be sure to use lots of Butt Paste to prevent diaper rash.

I also recommend Nature Baby disposables that are earth friendly and compostable. I went that route instead of doing more laundry.
Good for you for trying it out! I believe there are a lot of awesome benefits (not to mention cute diapers out there). There is no way I would have time to work and wash diapers at home at night, but I think if I was a SAHM I would try it. Althougth, there are some poopy diapers I would probably give in and thrown in the trash - especially once they start on solid foods. :) I've heard G-diapers are good too (semi-disposable)
