Is #5 plastic safe? This is what Brita uses to make their pitchers.

Apparently, yes, it is safe and does not leak BPA.

I talked to two different customer reps today from the company and they assured me that the pitchers have always been BPA free.

You can recycle #5 at Whole Foods. They make it into razors and toothbrushes.

Crazy thing - I actually had to call Brita today to get a replacement part. Weird timing!

Yeah, we can recycle #5 in our bins. Which is cool! We can recycle everything except #6 (that's horrible plastic btw which most take out places use).

Ann Arbor has crappy plastic recycling. Only #1 and #2 in bottle form only.
