The next few days will be a circus. As in - C-I-R-C-U-S because we get to know what real parents go through, as in parents that have more than one child and one of them is a toddler. Frederick is visiting until Tuesday and it's always a little more wild around here when he's thrown in the mix. (I know my friends with 2 or 3 children are reading this going, "Pa-shah! This is my everyday life!)
See, we have my 3.5 year old stepson and Austin who turns 7 months old tomorrow (oh Jesus). And let me tell you they both have personalities.
As in, Austin will now wake up at about 7:30am, stay up for an hour then demand a 2 hour nap. Then will not nap again until around 5pm for 30 minutes - and that's it. Not sure if this is normal (Mommy Friends, feel free to chime in!) This has been happening the past few days and Austin has been going down easier at night as a result, so, I'm stickin' to it.
The fact that he no longer wants to nap at around 2pm like before is a godsend, as in, THANK GOD. The reason being: If I wanted to run errands or go do anything during the day I had to plan around 3 different nap times which only left about 2 -3 hours in between to do those errands which isn't a lot of time. He falls asleep in the car but doesn't sleep as well so it's not really a "quality nap" or whatever that one book said.
So, Austin is a sleep diva, definitely. He did fall asleep last night at 8pm then didn't wake again to eat until 1am. No fight to go down. Whew, we're making progress. Sloooow progress, but progress.
And Frederick... we possibly need to buy one of those child leashes as seen here because seriously that child could have been abducted 10 different times while we were attempting to buy shoes for him. I'll just say it took a long time to find shoes, get him to try them on and then purchase them - all without major mishap.
We get in the car, buckle them in and as if the car's engine starting were some type of cue they both start whining (it was near naptime)....at this point I'm looking for the Candid Camera...had to be around there somewhere.
So, this post ends here... because children are beckoning!

Go with whatever nap schedule works! Callie was a heavy nappers (2 hours in the AM, 2 hours in the PM). When she was about 15 months I forcefully took away her AM nap because we were always tied to the house. Jack is a lighter nappers. 1-hour in the AM and 1 1/2 hours in the PM and off to bed at 7:00. Good luck this weekend!
I echo Mel's nap schedules. That's exactly what my kids did and I, too, forcefully took away that AM nap...but I did it at 12 months because it was summer time and I didn't want to be tied to the house.
And like she said, do what works for you. If he doesn't seem crabby, then maybe that's all the sleeping he needs. It's nice to have those 2 2 hour naps, but it's ALSO nice to have a time when you can get out and run errands.
So, your shoe shopping story reminded me of something that I have that I think EVERYONE needs. I always end up loaning mine out.
I got a child's shoe/foot measurer from One Step Ahead. It's $10 and it's awesome! I just measure their foot and then buy the shoes by MYSELF or get them on Ebay...which is nice. Totally worth it!
