On Thursday I had to take the 3 hour Glucose Tolerance Test since my 1 hour test came back with a high glucose reading.
This is how the 3 hour GTT plays out:
Fast for 10 hours.
8:00am - Check in at the lab and have your baseline test blood drawn. Drink nasty glucose drink (at least 8 oz.) within 5 minutes. At this point, I actually feel nauseated because I've had nothing to eat for over 10 hours and then ingesting straight sugar.
9:00am - Get blood drawn again. Sit around and wait in freezing, cold room and listen to a bunch of old people complain about the new Snoqualmie Casino opening on Thursday.
10:00am - Blood drawn. Attempt to take nap with fluorescent lights blaring in the room I'm holed up in. Can't nap, so read the latest US Weekly.
11:00am - Blood drawn. Promptly go to Qdoba and eat HUGE burrito.
Oh, and P.S., I got the results back - I'm completely fine. See, about 20% of women that take the 1 hour GTT have to go back to take the 3 hour GTT because of high readings, but only 1/3 of women that take the 3 hour GTT actually have gestational diabetes.
Bah.
