Vaccinations - The Big Debate

This week on Momversation there was discussion regarding vaccinations and how they may or may not be linked to autism. I found it very interesting especially since Austin will be starting vaccinations next week (my heart just stopped at the thought of someone poking him with a needle) and I'm considering spacing out the vaccinations (which is possible if our doctor works with us) versus following the CDC's recommended schedule. The reason for spacing them out is because the schedule seems very aggressive for a 2 month old infant and this is something we will obviously discuss with the pediatrician.

One thing is for sure-positive: Austin WILL BE vaccinated. To not vaccinate a child is to put them at risk, especially since there are many parents choosing to not vaccinate their children. Parents that choose to not vaccinate their children put infants who have not yet been vaccinated at risk. Check out dooce.com there's a good story link regarding the measles outbreak in Southern California last year.

I'm always interested to hear what other parents chose to do come vaccination time. If anyone wants to share - feel free!

I totally vaccinated all my kids and did so when it was recommended.
I just don't think there is enough concrete evidence that vacs. lead to autism and I think the term 'autism' has been used to describe so many different "conditions" these days.
Plus, the way I see it, I'd rather have an autistic child than one who has polio!
I wonder what other people think...

I agree wholeheartedly with Dooce's post. I highly recommend The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears. He has a delayed schedule that he recommends. I really respect him and his research, and I believe vaccinations are in the best interest of everyone. But I do wish I could go back and do the delayed schedule with my kids. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Yes, vaccination is a necessity but it's still so nerve wracking.
