What did I learn this week?
That when you are a first time mom it's ok to feel paranoid, especially when your 3 year-old stepson has strep throat and running around the house coughing. Thankfully, so far, Scooter, nor myself, nor Austin has caught it and hopefully stays that way.
We took Austin to the pediatrician today because it seemed as if he may have an ear infection since there was yellow drainage coming from his ear. It turned out to just be some runny wax and he's perfectly healthy.
I asked the doctor, "What do we do when a 3 year old comes home with strep throat and we have Austin who's only 2 months old? Was I paranoid to lock myself and Austin the nursery all day on Saturday and part of the day on Sunday to insure Austin didn't get sick?"
And apparently, no, I was not paranoid. He said his main concern would be if Scooter or myself got strep throat since we care for the baby and are closer to him physically. Well, Scooter was caring for the little sicky all weekend so I was afraid he would get sick and then...ugh. Or if I got sick, bah. And I do understand that babies will get sick - but with strep throat at 2 months old, not good.

First major rule of motherhood is to trust your gut. I'm glad you listened to it and verified with the doctor. Hope everyone is feeling well soon!
Hope everyone is healthy again soon.
When my son was 3 weeks old I came down with strep the day before he was going to have a minor procedure done on his heart. I was beyond freaked. My pediatrician told me that it is unlikely for a newborn/infant to get strep. And he didn't get it but I just remember being so scared especially b/c I was breastfeeding him. So I feel your pain!
I hope everyone is healthy soon. I don't blame you, babies getting sick is very worrisome.
