The economy seems to not be so good.... this isn't news I'm assuming.

I went to drop off Austin at the drop-in care place (which is awesome, have I mentioned that?!) and usually there are wives there working out, drinking lattes, going to their tennis lessons, etc.

While walking down the hall I heard a conversation that caught my attention and due to the woman not talking so quietly, I was able to hear almost all of it.

"So, they send her to stay with his mom during the week on Mercer Island and then pick her up on the weekends and spend time with her.  They just didn't want her to be a latch-key kid."

"That's soooo sad!"

"Yeah, I know.  And then you know she didn't renew her membership here also, it's just tough right now."

And as I was checking Austin in I overheard one of the receptionists talking to the woman on the phone, "So you WERE a member, but you aren't now?  Ok, your husband IS?"

It seems no one can afford to renew the spouses memberships at the club.  Not much of surprise.

Attending the career mixer on Monday night, it also hit me that the climate out in the market right now is dismal.  I ended up talking with people that have been looking for work for months.

Let's hope the storm passes soon.  I know I've been trying to do things to help cut costs (coupon clipping anyone?  Seriously, never thought I'd do it.)
