And it was disgusting. I had laundry going on around the clock. First Austin was attacked, then me about 36 hours later, and then 3 hours after me, my husband was taken down. It was the worst. Ever. It wasn't such a big deal for us grown ups but for poor Austin, it was bad. He seemed to handle it better than us though!
We went to Austin's ND to get checked out and thankfully, 24 hours after getting sick, he wasn't dehydrated. She prescribed mint and chamomile tea (the chamomile helps to kill the virus and the mint helps settle the tummy) and also Slippery Elm mixed in apple sauce to help his nausea. About 10 minutes after giving Austin the Slippery Elm he ceased throwing up for about 8 hours. It totally worked (I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first)! And then when Scooter and I got sick we ended up taking the remedies. Dr. Sheila also recommended Recharge which is a natural version of Gatorade (minus the fructose and artificial coloring and flavors) and it's yummy! Unfortunately, we were only able to find it a Whole Foods.
Skeptical at first, I wasn't sure about Austin having a naturopathic doctor, especially as our first source of medical care for him. At first, I was using Dr. Sheila as a "supplement". But after her help with numerous colds, and now utilizing her knowledge in herbs to help alleviate Austin's unpleasantness during this last bout of sickness - I am totally sold. She is amazing and am so glad my friend recommended her. I'm so curious as to what Austin's former pediatrician would have recommended. Probably Pedialyte and just waiting it out! Which would not have worked because Austin hates Pedialyte and it is nasty cannot blame him.
On this blog I am going to occasionally share remedies we receive from our ND along with natural remedies I come across on my own. I want to note that I am not a doctor! Please check with your physician before adding any supplements or natural remedies to your regimen.
