Austin has been a non-walker when I thought for sure he'd be a walker by 13 months. I'm surely not the only parent that has certain expectations of what their child should be doing by a certain age because all of those expensive parenting books claim that, "By 12 months your child should be able to read Chaucer and build a log cabin out of beach wood in the middle of the desert. If not, please have you child examined by a pediatrician."
Austin 11 months old.
I started to worry a bit because, well, Austin didn't seem to have any interest in walking, but the child could put a Nascar driver to shame with his speed in crawling. Then, suddenly, he did have interest in walking and now that is his main goal right now and you can see the determination in his face when he pushes himself up to stand. He pushes up to stand, walks 4 steps.
Falls over.
Pushes back up to stand, walks 5 steps.
Falls back on his tush.
Pushes back up, walks 6 steps.
Falls over, busts his lip.
3 minutes of crying (then one Arnica pellet later....)
Pushes back up to stand.
Walks 8 steps.
Repeat.
Even though attempting to walk has so far caused 2 lips injuries, a bruise in between his eyes, countless head bumps - he still gets up and tries again. (Thank goodness for Arnica!)
I am beyond proud of him because even though he is way (waaaaaaaaaaaaaay) younger than me, his mama, he is still teaching Scooter and I something about life.
